2015 Miss Rodeo Mississippi

Laura Elizabeth Sumrall is the 22-year-old daughter of Hiram and Dr. Dawn Sumrall of Summit, Mississippi.  She is a senior Agricultural Communications and Journalism major at Texas A&M University, where she is a four-year scholarship athlete and the senior captain of the national champion women’s equestrian team.  After a three-month study abroad in Paris, France, she will also finish up her time at Texas A&M with a minor in French, and she will graduate in May.


At Texas A&M, Sumrall was named Academic NCEA All-American 2012-2014, SEC Academic Honor Roll 2012-2014, Texas A&M University Most Outstanding Player 2012-2014, NCEA Honorable Mention All-American 2013-14, and All-SEC team 2013-14.


Sumrall is a 2011 graduate of Parklane Academy of McComb, Mississippi, where she was named “Most Likely to Succeed” and “Miss Parklane” by her fellow students.  At Parklane, she was a member of Mu Alpha Theta, vice president of the Honor Society, and the editor of her high school’s newspaper, The Pioneer Press.  With 16 years of dancing experience, she was on the cheerleading squad for 5 years and the dance line her senior year.  She was the McComb Garden Club Azalea Queen in 2011. 


Sumrall has been riding 17 years in most western disciplines but has been a reiner since the age of 12.  She won her first National Championship in barrel racing at the age of eleven. In 2008, she won the Palomino youth reining world championship.  She won a pair of silver medals and a bronze at the USEF Reining Championship and was a finalist at the 2011 Level 1 Non-Pro Derby.  She was chosen to participate in the World Equestrian Games in 2010 in the freestyle reining.  She won the Dixie National Freestyle in 2010 and won the Bronze medal in the Kentucky World Cup freestyle in 2012, where she was the only youth participant. 


Sumrall also enjoys reading, writing, photography, baking, and music, and recently added cowboy mounted shooting to her resume.
